Condolence Motion for the Most Venerable Thich Phuoc Hue

The Federal Member for Berowra, the Hon. Philip Ruddock MP, is to move a Condolence Motion in Parliament on 27 February 2012 for the late Most Venerable Thich Phuoc Hue, a key leader of the Vietnamese Buddhist community who passed away on 28 January 2012.

Mr Ruddock developed a close relationship with the Most Venerable during his time as the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, and was honoured to attend his memorial service on 8 February 2012.

“This is a small gesture, but it goes some way to commemorating this great man, his contribution to the Vietnamese Buddhist community, and to Australia” said Mr. Ruddock.

“His is an inspiring story – coming to Australia from Vietnam, establishing a Vietnamese Buddhist community in Australia, leading that community, teaching, his work in charity, social welfare and the building of temples – and it is fitting that it is marked in this way.” he said.

His Federal colleagues, Craig Kelly MP, the Member for Hughes; and Russell Matheson MP, the Member for Macarthur, have eagerly agreed to speak in support.

The motion is likely to be moved in the House of Representatives at around 8:45 pm on 27 February 2012.
